The region around Thimphu is relatively easy for cycling, as compared to Punakha, where the hilly countryside can make biking tougher for those who are not experienced cyclists.
If you’re going cycling in Bhutan, we recommend March/April or October/November as the best times of year to avoid extreme cold, wind and rain.

For those who prefer to do day hikes, there are some lovely trails in and around Paro and Punakha. After a day spent out in the countryside, you can return to your hotel in the evening to unwind in luxury.
Tiger’s Nest from Paro and Chimi Lakhang from Punakha are a couple of terrific day-long excursions which add on a touch of culture as well.
If you’re an avid trekker and photographer, then this is a trek worth doing.
October to December is ideal because there is little rain and the sun shines brightly. January and February are crisp and cold, and woolies and winter gear are recommended.
These snow-fed rivers rush along through the mountainous landscape, making a rafting trip a fantastic adventure as well as very scenic. March/April and November/ December are the best times of year to go rafting in Bhutan.
As you hike through the countryside, pause at a local monastery or take a break and meditate as you soak in the serenity of the landscape. The Bhutanese are rugged mountain folk, and well acquainted with the outdoors.
